As part of the temporary Technical Commission appointed by the Galician Culture Council (Consello da Cultura Galega), Xavier Simon has participated in the elaboration of a report concerning the impact of wind energy production facilities on Galician cultural landscapes.
The rationale for the report
At the request of several municipalities and social groups, the independent public entity Consello da Cultura Galega launched a temporary commission to draft and write a final report on the impact of wind energy on cultural landscapes.
Our director took part in a team including archaeologists, legal experts, anthropologists, architects, geographers, and economists among others. Following a methodology consisting in constructive dialogue and the contribution of ideas from a disciplinary perspective, the commission generated a transdisciplinary evaluation to collect ideas and arguments in a narrative language that has gone well beyond all disciplinary barriers. The report responds to the social demand expressed by various public and private entities calling to relativize, contextualize and give a social dimension to the dynamics of wind investments, which have been causing so much controversy throughout the Galician society in particular and throughout the Cantabrian coast in general.
