The event on energy communities and community initiatives, organized by the Wind Observatory of Galicia, brought together key stakeholders from Galicia’s energy ecosystem with a community-focused perspective at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Vigo.
The “Comunidades de Montes en Man Común” (CMVMC) played a pivotal role in the day’s proceedings, clearly demonstrating the potential of these collective action entities to lead the community-driven transformation of rural Galicia.
The session began with the announcement that the A Reigosa energy community in Ponte Caldelas is now operational, becoming the second Galician community connected to the grid (the first one was Arousa en Transición).
The CMVMC of Buchabade in Ponte Caldelas and CMVMC de Tameiga in Mos showcased how collective self-consumption with surplus compensation can serve as a viable alternative when legal obstacles hinder the development of energy communities.
Meanwhile, the CMVMC of Froxán in Lousame highlighted the challenges posed by distributors in granting the necessary grid access for these installations. Froxán also stands out as the first successful Galician experience in shared electric mobility.
