WIND WORLD

The world of wind energy is broad and very diverse. Often it cannot be detached from renewable energy initiatives. In addition, multiple actors are involved in its development: institutions with different scales of action; business groups that promote wind farms; owners' groups that encourage more participatory and transparent proposals; consumer groups that focus on self-consumption; specialized research centers; social groups and environmentalists that concentrate on external effects of these technologies, etc.

On the other hand, the connection between wind development and the fight against climate change – a globally shared goal – opens and expands the range of actors and interests that form part of the wind world.

This section attempts to exemplify this diversity by facilitating the accumulation of ideas, projects and links that contribute towards strengthening the positions of those who believe, invest and comprehensively cooperate to strengthen the ecological basis of our socio-economic system and its strategy to mitigate climate change.

Wind energy requires an initial condition for its development: the existence of a wind resource that predetermines potential wind power installations. All the information provided by the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) is of interest, mainly the Atlas Eólico de España, promoted by the IDAE within the framework for the development of the Renewable Energy Plan (PER) in Spain 2011-2020.

The following link provides access to the information on the Spanish Wind Atlas, both online and via a downloadable link of the complete publication with all the data and maps provided by the IDAE.

This is a tool of interest in identifying the geographic location of operating wind farms, especially, the ones immersed in administrative processing as well as the most recent wind farm applications. This electronic tool, based on the Law of Promotion of the Implementation of Business Initiatives of Galicia, is an electronic collection of the cartographic location of all operating wind farms, regardless of whether they are authorized or undergoing administrative processing in the Galician territory. This tool, recently opened to consultation a few months ago, facilitates searches by geographic location. However, it hardly provides additional information about these wind farms.
