Wind Development in Galicia: 1995-2021 Unfinished reflections from the territorial planning and subsequent regulatory changes has been published as a Working Document of the Department of Applied Economics of the University of Vigo (Working Paper 21/05. November 2021). The text is co-authored by two researchers from the University of Vigo linked to the GWO: Dra. Maria Montero, professor at the Department of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis, and Dr. Xavier Simon, researcher in the Department of Applied Economics.
In an attempt to provide a new perspective on the current state of the sector after 25 years of development, this work reviews the regulatory framework that explains the territorial and energy planning of wind energy in Galicia. This intellectual exercise is novel in Galicia and may perhaps be of a high social value given its usefulness for understanding the dynamics of current opposition to the expansion of wind energy in Galicia.
Performing a systematic review of energy legislation and referring to the main sources of quantitative information on wind energy, the work uses the socioeconomic impact of this renewable source as a link and unifying element to make a temporary systematization of wind evolution. It also reflects on the current state of the Galician regulatory framework and draws attention to some of its main issues, which allows us to state that it is globally severing the self-same system.
