A new event happened on the Iberian Peninsula last year. Specifically, the first wind turbine of community ownership was put into operation. This is an important novelty. Unlike in other places in Europe and the World where administrations and public policies promote these types of cooperative or community facilities, it is very difficult to develop wind farms of this type at the peninsular level.
The project “Living from heavenly air,” has put a wind turbine of 2.35 MW in the municipality of Pujalt (Alta Anoia) into operation after 10 years of processing. This initiative emerged from the collaboration between different entities and organizations and approximately 500 individuals on an individual basis. The promotion of shared, community-owned or cooperative wind farms resulting from the collective action of people and entities in the wind sector is of interest for democratizing the sector and increasing positive economic impacts in rural areas.
