The Galician Wind Observatory carries out an exhaustive and constant monitoring of the current wind farm procedures in Galicia. The GWO has observed important developments over recent weeks in one of the first areas in which public information is available, the environmental start-up procedure. Specifically, during the month of November the Ministry of Environment, Territory and Housing has published environmental information about ten wind farm projects in different areas across the Galician territory.
This is one of the initial stages of the administrative procedure and The Consellaría website enables online participation (see link at the end of this entry). The environmental department then elaborates a document on the scope of the environmental impact. Subsequently, information is published in the Official Gazette concerning the administrative authorization, approval for the implementation of the project, declaration of public utility (if applicable), as well as the approval of both the environmental impact study and the supra-municipal incidence project.
The new wind farms under environmental processing that were already on the Galician Wind Registry are added to the list of wind farms at a leading processing stage, such as those declared as Special Interest Projects. This advances the likelihood of a substantial increase in Galician wind power over the coming years. The ten wind farms with an environmental start-up document represent 82 additional wind turbines with a unit power of up to 4.2 MW and an aggregate power of 330.9 MW.
Where can we find information on each of the projects? At the following Ministry of Environment, Territory and Housing link.
