We are part of the team working on the “Ecosocial Laboratory of Barbanza: A Living Laboratory for Multifunctional Management and Collective Land Stewardship” project. This initiative is funded by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) through the “Grant Program for Supporting Transformative Projects that Promote the Bioeconomy in the Forestry Sector and Contribute to the Ecological Transition.”
The Observatory is leading an advisory effort to establish an energy community within the municipality of Rianxo. Last week, local stakeholders gathered for the project’s first meeting, including citizens, forestry communities, business owners, and representatives of the Rianxo municipality. This initial session introduced the concept of energy citizenship, opened discussion on the main challenges in the local energy landscape, and outlined the foundations of the new concept of energy communities.
All participants expressed a shared commitment to creating a local energy community, empowering local stakeholders to take an active role in advancing the essential energy transition.
