The first virtual session of the International Seminar for a Sustainable and Equitable Energy System will take place on Friday, 30 October, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.. The topic will be “Ways to make a truly transformative energy transition”. It implies that producing green, low-CO2 electricity is insufficient. Transformation must come through changes in the distribution of benefits among
actors, territories, and even among different generations. These are the ideas for discussion in this first session. Everyone will also have the chance to share their own ideas.
First Friday on the Wind Program
Dr. Jacobo Ramírez, a Mexican professor in the Department of Management, Society and Communication of the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark will participate.
Professor Ramírez is a renowned researcher on the structure of all types of organizations, especially within the context of structural fragility and organizational complexity. Over the
recent years, he has directed his activity towards the field of renewable energy, through which he analyzes the success (and failure) of energy governance in countries such as Mexico,
Colombia and Denmark.
Cristina Alonso, responsible of Climate Justice Issue of Amigos de la Tierra, will share with all participants the main drivers of international campaigns that fight to the transformation of the energy system to tackling climate change. It entails democratic answers to the fundamental questions: for whom and what is energy produced? Energy sovereignty is one key solution, allowing communities to choose sustainable energy sources and develop healthy consumption patterns to create sustainable societies.
Xavier Simón, head of the Galician Wind Observatory and professor at the University of Vigo, will also participate. Dr. Simón and the UVIGO Ecological Economy group are a benchmark in
the analysis of policies promoting renewables in Galicia and their social/economic impact on rural areas.
