On 28 and 29 May 2026, Vigo will host the Meeting of Community Entities for the Energy Transition, a space for networking and collaboration among associations, cooperatives and woodland communities that are already leading the energy shift from the ground up.
The transition towards a fairer and more sustainable energy model cannot be built by large corporations alone. In Galicia, a growing number of communities, associations and cooperatives are taking charge of their own renewable energy projects: community wind farms, photovoltaic installations and collective land management initiatives that put energy at the service of citizens. The regional government’s initiative, known as “Recursos de Galicia,” marks the beginning of an energy model that differs from the one currently in place.
To bring these experiences together, share knowledge and lay the foundations for a common network, this meeting will take place in the Degree Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the Universidade de Vigo.
Provisional programme
On the afternoon of Thursday 28 May, the film Vidas Irrenovables will be screened, followed by a debate. On Friday 29 May, working sessions will be held throughout the day on community wind farms in Galicia, Catalonia and Europe, the participation of CMVMC in energy communities, wind farm repowering, Woodland Communities and CO₂ management, local community projects, and negotiations with energy developers. The day will close with a session dedicated to the creation of a Network of Community Entities for the Energy Transition. The full programme will be available shortly.
Who should attend
The meeting is aimed at those already working in community energy in Galicia or interested in doing so: woodland communities with wind or photovoltaic projects in operation or under negotiation, community-based cooperatives and associations with renewable energy projects, and other collective actors with an interest in locally driven energy transition.
Why this meeting matters
Beyond the technical sessions and debates, the meeting has a concrete goal: to create a Network of Community Entities for the Energy Transition that brings together efforts, shares good practices and strengthens the position of communities in negotiation processes. Because local energy governance is not just possible — in Galicia, it is already happening.
Registration
Registration is free for members of community entities (CMVMC, associations and cooperatives linked to community energy), with a maximum of two people per entity and a supporting certificate required. For companies and other entities the fee is €120 per person.
